Volunteers

The Empty Space welcomes and values the contributions of volunteers in many aspects of its work. Different kinds of opportunities are available that are sure to interest people with various time frames, skills, and areas of interest. Some volunteer opportunities are long-term, while others are project-based, or short-term. Our administrative, development, education, and marketing departments have frequent need of volunteers for various projects as well as for longer-term commitments. We also welcome technical support volunteers (ie. stage management, set construction, costume design, and stage crew).

New volunteers will be asked to submit an information form and will be interviewed. All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Lobby Volunteers: 
We have an ongoing need for lobby volunteers. The Empty Space is looking for people with a pleasant public demeanor who enjoy helping and assisting patrons during their time at the theatre. Volunteers greet patrons, track attendance, accept donations, hand out programs, sell concessions and assist with art gallery sales. Volunteering at The Empty Space is a great opportunity to support local theatre, see professional-quality performances and enhance the experience of our patrons.

Internships

For high school students: Junior Internships are open to high school students who volunteer at The Empty Space for two hours per week. As we are a non-profit orginziation, time volunteered fulfills the Kern High School District's required community service hours. Junior Board Memberships and shadowing opportunities are also available to high school students. These internships are avalible year round.

For college students and college graduates: The Empty Space offers non-paying internships in all areas of administration, including education programming, marketing, fundraising and finance, casting and non-union production management. The Empty Space does not provide housing for interns and internships.
